Since Shayla has said I must update, update I shall (a bit belatedly perhaps, but, eh).

See, when I was little I used to draw on my Dad's feet. Every so often when I'm bored he suggests that I do it, and if I'm really really bored, I do. So this is today's handiwork. I know she's horribly disproportioned, but c'mon, cut me some slack, it's done on a foot with a sharpie:

It is way too fucking hot out. And I have too many goddamn essays to write... Oh yeah, about the APUSH: On the actual paper (online version) it says to read chapters 1-3, but she gave us mind maps for chapter 4, are we supposed to do that one too? (dear lord, I hope not) And then for the essay, it says write one of the two following essays, but then there are three choices. I'm sure it's just a typo, but it's nagging on the back of my brain, especially since I want to do the third one. So if anyone wants to grant me a little peace of mind here it would be much appreciated (otherwise I'm going to have to make an idiot of myself before the year starts and email her) For that matter, how long is this essay supposed to be? Are we supposed to use outside information or just the textbook? Do we have to do those annoying little citation thingies? Or... *shoots self in head*

Things to do:

  • Read remaining half of AP Bio articles

  • Write ridiculous AP Bio essay about what life is

  • Finish book for APUSH

  • Write essay for APUSH

  • Bitch and moan and be paranoid about it

Anyway, hope summer is treating you all decently, don't go out and die of heatstroke, I love you all too much.

I don't know that much about Putin, but I think I <3 him for this:

"I talked about my desire to promote institutional change in parts of the world like Iraq where there's a free press and free religion," Bush said at the news conference, "and I told him that a lot of people in our country would hope that Russia would do the same thing."

Putin, in a barbed reply, said: "We certainly would not want to have the same kind of democracy as they have in Iraq, I will tell you quite honestly."

Later Note: I want to go here

I'm seriously starting to think that WWIII is going to break out pretty soon. I mean, the whole Israel/Palestine thing has been escalating since the Israeli soldier was kidnapped, and then, as a result of Hizbollah getting involved, Israel now seems intent on leveling all of Lebanon ("Nothing is safe"). Iran has already said, essentially, that if Israel touches Syria, they'll get a "stinging response" (and, hell, knowing the feelings of the leadership of Iran, it's not like they're trying to avoid having the opportunity to offer it) If Iran gets involved, and even if they don't, the US will probably come in Israel's side (that is, if we have any troops left... or, yay, maybe the draft will come back)

And just when the World Cup was giving me faith that some kind of peace might be possible. (And on a more shallow note, what am I supposed to do with my time now that I don't have the German national team to lust after?)

I think I've mentioned to a couple of people that I'm trying to learn German. For your enjoyment, I present the best of the terms I have learned so far:

Ein Herrenhandtäschchen = a six pack of beer (but it's literal translation is "a man's handbag" xD)

And, alas, I only have two Rammstein songs. I need more for, um, education purposes.

What happens when you walk quietly down Main Street, minding your own business... Or why I really don't like Mormons:

Apparently I'm in need of some saving. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so polite and could just tell these people to fuck off, rather than meekly accepting the above card. Does giving these things out make them happy? Do they go home and night and earnestly pray "Dear Lord, please save the soul of that one skankishly dressed girl" ?

How anyone can accept religion so unquestioningly is completely beyond my level of comprehension.

Has anybody here ever seen the old version The Lion in Winter? Very, very good movie, and our local library actually has it on video, so if you need something to watch this summer go borrow it. I'd try and explain the plot, but it's kind of hard to beyond Henry II, Eleanor, their sons, and the French King all compete and screw with each other's heads in a fashion that is both extremely witty and occasionally heart-breaking.

It reminded me of something that I've been curious about before. There are a lot of rumors floating around the historical world that Richard I was a homosexual. Does anyone else see how delightfully ironic it would be if one of the leaders of the biggest holy war in the world's history was gay?

Today, my family and I went to the wonderfully air-conditioned mall to escape the crazy heat. So I'm over on the edge of Borders (looking at the foreign language books to see how much I can understand) when I hear a voice emanating from the fantasy section: "Oh, you like Science Fiction, let me show you this..." It had an accent. A terrifyingly familiar accent. Yes, you guessed it, Mr. Kaplan was accosting some random individual. Poor soul.

Tonight, I was very bored. I had no homework, and nothing else to do. So... I made comic strips related to Julius Caesar. They're really bad, but I'll post them here anyway, on the off chance that someone else is as bored as I am and might potentially find them amusing.

I was going to tell you
That I liked your shirt
Just to strike up conversation
And because I did
But I never said a word
And then you started wearing it everyday
And I wondered if some other girl
Had the guts to say it
And I hope to God that they didn't
Because I see you everytime I close my eyes

There, some bad poetry to brighten your day ;)

Abso-friggin'-lutely fabuolous day. I'm not really sure why, I'm just uber happy right now.

I nearly ran into (and in the literal smashing kind of way, not the seeing them way) someone I find extremely attractive, which should have made me feel like a moron, but, eh, like I said, I'm in a strange mood right now.

We watched Sesame Street during Chem today, since Bouruchowitz (sp?) wasn't there. It was oddly fascinating.

We totally owned in our debate on "Is media violence harmful to children?" in psychology. Maybe it helped that the people we were against pretty much agreed with us that it's not harmful, and 90% of the rest of the class was on our side, but still, we owned...

I don't know how many of you have seen me present things in front of a class, but I... really don't like doing it. In the five minutes after psych. that I'm walking down the hall Kirsten asked me if I had just come from gym and Shayla said I was bright red. Which I was. (The debate was way better than the persuasive speech for English though, I was shaking after I finished that one)

I'm reading A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. It's very good, very disturbing, brutal, but very, very good. The characters are violently gray, and there is no absolute good or evil, everything is relative. There are passages that are so beautiful you (or I did at least) will sob over them. I'm kind of afraid to recommend it though, because, like I said before, it's brutal. (Martin's world is based on actual history in this regard a lot more than most fantasy) I mean, I'm about 200 pages in - out of about 800, I think - and there's already been statutory rape, incest, a child hacked up into little pieces and... ice zombies.

  • AP US
  • College PreCalc
  • AP Bio
  • Physics
  • Gym *shudder*
  • Ceramics (and then after Ceramics I'll either have a study hall or do some random independant study)

Well, the horror of my one midterm is over, I can now have one day of undisturbed vacation. Actually, Tuesday and Wednesday were pretty undisturbed too, since I'm too much of a slacker to actually study for more than five minutes...

My parents went and talked to the contractor/builder people about our house again today. We're going to have to get our kitchen knocked down fairly soon or else it's going to pull the rest of our house down with it (next time you're in my house have a look at the wall that faces the woods and Juniper Manor, it ain't pretty) so they wanted to add onto our house at the same time since there would be construction going on anyway. Then today the people said that the add-on stuff would be like $300 per square foot, which is, ahem, a little over what we can pay (without selling me into slavery at any rate)

For your amusement, today's quote is from a part in the book I'm currently reading (The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay) in which the protagonists are attempting (successfully) to distract the enemy leader:

" "I throb, I yearn, I die. Oh, Nino, come to me with the short sword of your loins!"
The short sword? "

After our soccer game (and I swear, there must have been some kind of prerequisite of being an arragant bastard to be on the team we played) we went to the mall. I wanted to go to look for books. Even though I rarely actually buy them, and instead make mental notes of the title and then go get them from the library. (I must single-handedly drive the inter-library loan proagram. I also use Amazon's wishlist thing to keep track of all of the books I want to read. There are 81 books on it right now XD I'll die before I get through it XD)

While we were there, kind of as an after thought, I decided I'd look for shoes for snowball (I'm wearing the dress I wore last year if it still fits, I haven't tried it on yet). So I go into the shoe store and am looking at the heels and there's this pair of shiny pinkish-purple ones. Half as a joke I decided to try them on, and after nearly falling over as I stood up, I discovered they actually fit. (Finding dress shoes is hard for me, my feet seem to be wider than most peoples at the toe end and narrower at the ankle) So I ended up getting them, and for the past half hour I've been staggering around the house in them.

The funny thing was, while I'm sitting on the little bench thingy this little kid (who's mother had previously crashed a stroller into one of the shoe shelves) comes up behind me, flops over onto the other half of the bench where my coat was, drools on it, and walks away.

Random pic of my foot in said shoes:

Why do we spend so much time in school reading about Greek mythology? Greek mythology is boring. I rather like Norse mythology though.

In one of them Thor's hammer is stolen by a giant, who says
he won't give back the hammer unless the gods send Freyja to be his
wife. So Freyja is all like "No, I'm not going, they'll call me a whore
if I do!" (Which is even funnier because in the myth before that in the
book she sells her body to four dwarves in exchange for a gold necklace)
So then one of the other gods gets the idea that they'll send Thor
himself, but dressed up as a bride. So the entire myth is about Thor and
Loki going to get back Thor's hammer while in drag.

There's also a myth which consists mainly of Loki insulting everyone else, through which you find out that the entire Norse pantheon has pretty much slept with each other. (...It beats General Hospital at any rate...)

My break has been pretty good so far, although I haven't really done anything, other than play movie-title pictionary yesterday, which is extra fun when none of the people playing can draw.

And now for two editorials I found kind of interesting:
